Honestly, I’m really not sure yet- other than that it’s an experiment! I can’t gaurantee it will be worthy to read or worthwhile to do, but I know I am immensely uplifted by the writing of others who are willing to share their life experiences, their small observations, big feelings, and the little bits in between that either make you feel alive and driven…or driven mad. Bits and Drives. It’s a tool pun people. Because in my dreamscape, I guess this is a space where I can freely stir and swirl my thought-soup on being a parent or birds nests or meatballs or toe jam, but that is also peppered with a little talk on tools and experiences in the building trades. Perhaps some how-tos on the common tools I use for projects, what I wish I knew how to do and how I might figure it out, the way it feels to be a woman and a mom who’s one foot in, one foot out of an occupation still so strongly dominated by cis, straight men. I’ve on occasion had the opportunity to teach carpentry to women, non-binary folks and kids and I think there is a collective hunger for the demystification of tools and an opening of opportunities to build stuff for a lot of people out there. So here you might find bits of info that are empowering for a beginning carpenter, especially one who’s felt excluded from, intimidated or overwhelmed by it all in the past.
Selfishly, I know that writing is cathartic for me and I require accountability to make it a practice. If I’m going to be tethered to screen and meme, I want to put intention into points of meaningful connection. Sometimes I just want a shared journal with my friends and want-to-be-friends, an open back and forth book that makes me feel more whole because it challenges me to scribble and not just scroll. Perhaps this will be that, and that will be enough.
